Our History

In 1895, Edgar McLellan delivered his dairy's milk on a horse-drawn cart to the small but burgeoning town of San Francisco. He found when collecting overdue bills that it helped to bring his customers fresh flowers from his garden. Soon, nearly as many people asked him for flowers as milk, so he decided to turn his love of plants into a cut-flower business.

By 1942, Edgar's son Rod began growing the company's first orchids and ornamental eucalyptus. His belief that orchids were plants everyone could enjoy led the company to become a pioneer in selling orchids to the public.

During the early 1960's, Rod had carefully selected eucalyptus varieties with smaller leaves and a more compact branches and registered the first trademarked eucalyptus, Baby Blue®. Preserved and greenhouse-dried, our special treated eucalyptus has been the standard of excellence for 50 years. Each hand-made bunch and design is made with the care that only years of dedication to quality can bring.

Today, by integrating tradition and innovation, Taisuco America as McLellan Botanicals leads the industry with beautiful new hybrid orchids and stylish eucalyptus designs. Taisuco America holds a reputation as one of the largest specialized growers of orchids in the world.
